If you’ve grown up hearing about Luray, Virginia, it’s likely because of Luray Caverns, one of Virginia’s top family attractions. But did you know that Luray and Page County is also the “Cabin Capital of Virginia,” an official designation given by the Virginia General Assembly in 2009 due to the availability of more than 250 cabins in that single locality?

Consider Shadow Mountain Escape for a romantic couples-only escape near Shenandoah National Park, or Cabin 8 at Brookside Cabins that accommodates five with two bedrooms and two full baths. If the whole family is in tow, consider Absolute Perfect Escape at Hawksbill Retreat. It sleeps 26, has unsurpassed views, spacious game room, and plenty of amenities to make your stay feel just like home. All Star Lodging offers a variety of cabin rentals, including plenty that are classified as “riverfront properties.”

While no one argues the wealth of options in Luray and Page County, there are other excellent cabins in the Shenandoah Valley that also deserve attention.

Want to stay inside the boundaries of Shenandoah National Park? Ask about the private cabins available at Skyland Resort, Big Meadows, and Lewis Mountain, but remember to call early to make your reservations as these cabins are in high demand.

A bit further south, you’ll feel like you’re in a treehouse if you book one of the luxury cabins for two at Iris Inn in Waynesboro. Floor to ceiling windows give you a bird’s eye view, as does the hot tub on the deck. Fine finishes and linens make these feel like anything but a cabin.

Tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Steele’s Tavern are Alpine Hideaway Cottages, which are located on 50 picturesque acres in a peaceful country setting – complete with a spring-fed pond, babbling creek, and mountain views.

In Covington is RockRidge River Retreat, a 200-acre property with trout-stocked Potts Creek running through it. Explore the fields, mountain, and stream as you please when you book one of their high-demand cabins. The grounds are open to hiking, fishing, climbing, skeet shooting, ATVing, river floating, and more.

Logwood, one of the nine cabins of Cabin Creekwood near Sherando Lake and the Blue Ridge Parkway, is a single bedroom delight with kayaks and canoes for rent. It’s a rustic antebellum cabin with exposed beams, wood-burning fireplace, and a clawfoot tub. Pets are welcome here.

With the Shenandoah River as its front yard, A Rustic River Cabin in Shenandoah is an excellent cabin choice for a group of friends or family of no more than 10. Fish, kayak, or float the river to your heart’s desire, then hit the hot tub at night to watch the stars.

Enjoy your Shenandoah Valley cabin escape in every season for a different experience and memory-making opportunity.
